Saving the Earth (Tues and Thurs only.)

In Bakersfield people who are seen walking out on the streets are assumed to be delinquent teenagers, crazy druggies, or homeless people. In cities such as these the identity of any respectable citizen is reflected in your car, SUV, or monster truck. It is an unfortunate fact that most people living here are forced to rely heavily on their own vehicle as the grocery store and the doctor's office and work are all a million miles apart. What about mass transit you say? Well, there really isn't any mass transit unless you count the slow-ass bus. (Plus people who ride the bus are deemed just as bad as the walkers.)

Because one of our cars is on it's deathbed we're sharing one car leaving me clean out of a ride to work two days a week. And since G is convinced that I would undoubtedly be run over on a scooter I proudly join the ranks of the derelict (Earth-saving) crazies by walking the 23 minutes to work. But only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The rest of the week I'm a Earth-killing car-loving a-hole.

Wow, you're a trooper, but that extra exercise is going to pay off big time very soon!

I was taking the train downtown in LA. Then I got pregnant, nauseus, and less tolerant of the crack-head touching himself in the seat next to me, plus daylight savings ended and I was walking home thry the not-so-savory part of town. I now drive a new Ford Focus- partial zero emissions vehicle, as clean as a Prius, and cheap as hell. I miss the walking to and from the train, but the rest of that experiance...not so much. Kudos to you! I recommend listening to "This American Life" podcast on your Ipod- there and back it will fit your whole walk!

This American Life would be perfect! Your Ford Foccus sounds fab - might have to break down and get a car when I start waddling...

if you are walking two days a week, and only driving three, i think that makes you a b-hole, not an a-hole.

and i bet you'll look really cute when you start to waddle. my advice when you get to that stage, stay away from papasan chairs! they look harmless, but i assure you, they are NOT!

love you, cort.

Are you ever right about papasan chairs....I fell out of one when I wasn't even pregs so I think they'll be staying off limits!
